Introduction
Welcome to another episode of the Fog Colony, where I will be going into detail about how I created the characters for this series. In this video, I will explain the process of using a character generator and share some tips on drawing and developing your own unique Warrior Cats characters.
How the Character Generator Works
In the description of every video, I provide a link to a character generator. When you open the link, it instantly generates a list of characters that you can use. If you're not a fan of the cats generated, you can simply refresh the page for a new list of characters. Alternatively, you can use the button below the title to generate a new list.
Generating Multiple Lists of Characters
For the Fog Colony, I actually generated two lists of cats to use. I felt that one list was not enough to create a full Clan, so I slightly adjusted the characters to better fit the story as I was drawing them.
Compiling Characters into a Google Drive Folder
To keep track of the generated characters, I took screenshots of each one and compiled them into a Google Drive folder. This way, I could easily access the characters later on.
Adjusting Characters to Fit the Story
While drawing the characters, I made slight adjustments to better integrate them into the story. For example, I chose my favorite medicine cat and apprentice design and stuck with that. When it came to the queens and kits, I decided to choose one mother for at least two kittens.
Choosing Mother Cats for the Queens and Kits
When selecting mother cats for the queens and kits, I followed a specific approach. I chose one mother for at least two kittens to add depth and variety to the character dynamics within the clan.
Drawing the Characters
Using the screenshots of the generated characters, I began drawing each one. I found it helpful to use image editing software to remove the white background from the character sprites. This allowed me to easily copy and paste them while sketching the characters.
Using the Clan Details from the Generator
The character generator I use also includes a list of Clan details. While not always necessary, these details can be helpful when developing your own story or creating additional characters for your clan.
Editing the Text in the Generator
Unfortunately, the text in the generator cannot be edited directly. However, you can take a screenshot of the text and edit it in another program. This workaround allows you to customize the text to better suit your characters and their backstory.
Using Other Warrior Cats Generators
If you're not satisfied with the generator I provided, there are plenty of other Warrior Cats generators available on Perchance and through a simple Google search. Feel free to explore and find the generator that best fits your needs and preferences.
Using Paint Tool SAI for Character Creation
To create the drawings of the characters, I personally use Paint Tool SAI. I take screenshots of the character sprites, remove the background, and then draw the characters in the program. I find it helpful to write down the name of each character below them to keep track of who is who.
Writing Down Character Names for Reference
When drawing multiple characters, it can be helpful to write down the names of each character below them. This ensures you don't mix them up and allows for easy reference while working on the drawings.
Answering Questions in the Comments
I genuinely appreciate your support and feedback. While I may not always reply right away, know that I will respond to your questions and comments at some point. Please be patient as I am busy with my day-to-day life, but rest assured, I will address any inquiries or concerns you may have.
Checking Hidden Messages on YouTube
To ensure that no messages are missed, I always check the hidden messages section on YouTube. Sometimes, YouTube bots can be a little unpredictable, and messages may end up hidden. So, if you don't see an immediate response, don't worry. I'll make sure to find and reply to your message.
Drawing the Rest of the Warriors with Apprentices
Now let's dive into the drawings of the remaining Warriors and their apprentices. Starting with Snaketail and Garlicroot, these two characters have unique traits and designs that make them stand out within the clan.
Drawing Snaketail and Garlicroot
Snaketail and Garlicroot are both important characters in the Fog Colony. Snaketail is a bigender cat with no specified pronouns, known for being open-minded, cooperative, and occasionally deceptive. Their dream is to become a leader, and their biggest fear is foxes. Garlicroot, on the other hand, is a tom with heat pronouns. They are courageous, extraordinary, and sometimes cowardly. Their dream is to live a fulfilling life and retire as an elder, but their biggest fear is being rendered useless.
As for the drawings, I depicted Snaketail and Garlicroot walking in the fog, capturing the mysterious atmosphere of the colony. Additionally, I drew a scenery of a river and gnarly trees, representing the unique territory of the clan.
Drawing Fulleyes and Daybreeze
Next up, we have Fulleyes and Daybreeze. Fulleyes is a demishe cat with they/it/neo pronouns, known for being hard-working, playful, and occasionally stoic. Their dream is to become the greatest hunter in the clan, and their biggest fear is owls. On the other hand, Daybreeze is a tom with they/she/neo pronouns, known for being practical, literal, and somewhat paranoid. Their dream is to be a memorable member of the clan, and their biggest fear is hawks.
I imagine Fulleyes and Daybreeze as a mentor and apprentice duo, honing their hunting skills. They are often seen taking long walks within the clan's territory, perfectly blending into their surroundings.
Drawing Rosemarytuft and Conetail
Our final characters for this video are Rosemarytuft and Conetail. Rosemarytuft is a loving and elegant cat, while Conetail is known for being weak but intelligent. Their dream is to become a kitty pet, and their biggest fear is monsters. Being brought into the clan as a kit, Conetail has a unique understanding of two-leg words.
In the drawing, Rosemarytuft and Conetail are sitting in front of an arch that covers the Warriors' Den. Above the arch is a set of stairs that has partially crumbled away, revealing the remnants of an ancient two-leg nest turned castle. The clan has made this castle their home, adapting to the decaying structure and creating their own lives amidst it.
I hope you enjoyed this journey through the creation of the Fog Colony characters. If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments. Thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next video!
