Introduction
In this article, I will be sharing some interesting stories about horses and their names. From the first horse I ever rode to the naughtiest horse I've encountered, I will take you on a journey through these equine experiences. I will also discuss my current horses and reveal my favorite name for a horse. So, let's dive into these fascinating tales!
The Name of My First Horse
As a young girl, I had the opportunity to ride various horses at pony parties and horse camps. However, the first horse that truly left an impression on me was a horse named High Tops. High Tops was a magnificent black grey horse with a thick white blaze. Although he was in his twenties and perhaps gaited, what I remember most about him was his constant flatulence. Despite not being a fan of his excessive gas, High Tops was an excellent horse to learn from.
The Name of My First Owned Horse
When the time came for me to have my own horse, my parents decided that the best choice would be the familiar old horse, High Tops. However, as a third-grade girl, I was not keen on having a horse that farted all the time. So, we continued our search and eventually found a horse named Freedom at an auction. My brother and I saved up our money, and we ended up purchasing him. We renamed him Slap Shot, inspired by my brother's love for hockey. Little did we know that Slap Shot was quite sick and untrained when we bought him, resulting in unexpected challenges.
The Naughtiest Horse I've Ever Known
Without a doubt, Slap Shot, my first owned horse, takes the crown for the naughtiest horse I've ever known. He was unbroke and untrained, which made my rides on him quite eventful. Countless times, he tossed me off and left me with broken bones and rope burns. While he excelled in certain areas such as showmanship patterns, he had a mischievous side when it came to standing still during halter and showmanship classes. He would cleverly shift his feet and always found a way to unsettle our positioning. Trailering was also a challenge with Slap Shot, as he would rear and strike out. Despite his naughty behaviors, he became a beloved horse in our family.
My Current Horses
Today, I am fortunate to still have Slap Shot in my life. He has become a part of our family and has a special place in my heart. We lovingly refer to him as Slap Shot Shedaisy because he insists on eating mouthfuls of daisies during our trail rides. Slap Shot is now 17 years old and continues to bring us joy despite his mischievous past. In addition to Slap Shot, we acquired a second horse, a thoroughbred off the racetrack named Chyuck. Although Chyuck may not have a fancy name, he has become a valued member of our equine family.
My Favorite Name for a Horse
As a member of the customer care team at SmartPak, I have had the pleasure of encountering many unique and fascinating horse names. Among my personal favorites are Zanzibar, Mr. Darcy (inspired by Pride and Prejudice), Nemo, Hiccup, Amore, Timon (as in Timon and Pumbaa), Ladybug, and Tonka. However, my absolute favorite is the name Leira. I came across a customer who had named their horse Ariel spelled backward, and I found it to be a beautiful and distinctive choice. If I ever have the opportunity to own a mare, I would certainly consider naming her Leira.
