Preparing for the Ginger Spice Transformation

Hey, everyone! My name is Kelly and today I'm going to teach you how to create a ginger spice hair color transformation using teasy lights to brighten and add dimension. My mannequin is a warm level 7, and I want to create a ginger spice transformation with a slightly darker base melted into lighter ends.

Sectioning for Teasy Light Application

To section for my teasy light application, I am splitting the head into four quadrants. From there, I am going to take two smaller triangular subsections around the face to create my bright face frame.

Applying Teasy Lights

For this application, I will be using one ounce of Simply Blonde Blue Powder Lightener and two ounces of 20 Volume Developer. Beginning in the back quadrant, I am taking diagonal back sections about half an inch in width. I'm really looking to brighten this canvas up, so I am taking smaller subsections. From each section, I am going to take a slice to help determine that I haven't taken too thick of a slice. I like to make sure that I can still see my hand through the hair. I'm going to give this section a few backcombs to create a teasy light. I love using small metal ductile clips to keep the tease out of the hair that I am applying the lightener to. This is also a great way to avoid over-teasing the hair. Now I'm going to fully saturate this section with my lightener, then feather the lightener up toward the tease. This tease will help to make sure that the color blends seamlessly. I am going to continue this same process for all four quadrants and last but not least, the face frame accent.

Creating a Bold Face Frame Accent

I want this face frame accent to be a pretty bold pop, so I am going to apply quite a few foils in this section. I am starting this accent by placing baby lights directly on the hairline as I work to the top of the section. I'm going to space these foils out to create a gradient of color. Now that the foils have been applied, I am going to gather the hair left in between the foils, backcomb just like I did for the rest of the teasy lights, and place the teasy light. Here, I'm going to let these teasy lights process and lift to a level 9 for a more vivid ginger spice result.

Processing and Shampooing the Teasy Lights

Once the hair is processed, I am going to shampoo and condition using the Restorative Shampoo and Conditioner. This system is perfect for maintaining healthy hair, especially in clients with lightened hair. After the hair is clean, I am going to blow dry it completely to prepare for the next steps in my color process. The hair is now lightened and ready for my ginger spice color.

Mixing the Ginger Spice Color Formula

To create this shade, I am going to use the new Kenra Color Sunrise Collection. For the base color, I am mixing a third of an ounce of 7N, a third of an ounce of 6GG, and a third of an ounce of 7CC mixed with 2 ounces of 9 Volume Activator. This will slightly deepen the existing base color and add a little bit of warmth to blend with the rest of the canvas. For the mid-length and end formula, I am using half of an ounce of 9GG and half of an ounce of 9CC with 2 ounces of 9 Volume Activator for a bright and unique ginger spice shade. I am going to keep the sectioning for this application super simple and precise with my teasy light application and use the same four quadrants and triangular face frame subsections.

Applying the Base Color

Once again, starting in the back quadrant, I am taking one-inch-thick subsections. First, I am applying the base color, bringing it down to the transition of my teasy light, then I am applying the ginger spice formula. From where I left off with the base color, all the way down to the ends, once both colors have been applied, I am using a wide-tooth comb, as well as my index and middle fingers, to blend the two colors together for a color melt effect. I'm going to continue this same pattern until I get to the face frame section.

Applying the Ginger Spice Formula

Now that I'm at my face frame section, I'm going to apply the color a little differently. Here, I want to keep this color nice and bold, so I won't be applying the base color as far down. I'm taking the base color and just basically tapping it right at the root to blend out the baby lights I placed here. Then, on the rest of the hair, I'm taking the bright formula and completely saturating all the way down to the ends. Definitely be sure to use a wide-tooth comb in this section to make sure that the base color and the ends melt seamlessly. Pro tip: To avoid the base color in the front quadrant from bleeding onto your bright face frame pieces, place the foil under this section and direct away from the face. This will also keep the client's skin and your color application clean.

Blending the Colors for a Color Melt Effect

My ginger spice color has been applied, and I'm going to process for 25 minutes, shampoo and condition with the Restorative system, and come back to style.

Styling the Ginger Spice Transformation

For the final result, to get this style started, I'm first going to apply the Pearl Detangler to easily brush through the hair, add hydration, shine, and thermal protection. Now that the hair is tangle-free, I'm applying a generous mist of Smoothing Spray to smooth frizz and flyaways for soft silky hair.

To begin the blow dry process, I'm going to dry the hair to about 75% before using any brushes. Once the hair is mostly dry, I'm using a round brush to smooth the hair out. Now, the hair is dry and I'm ready to complete this transformation with a style. I am using a one-and-a-quarter-inch iron to give soft, effortless waves to show off this gorgeous color. To finish, I am combing out the curls with a wide-tooth comb and locking this style in place with Voluminous Touch Memory Spray. And there you have it, a beautiful ginger spice transformation! I love how vibrant and rich this color turned out.

Conclusion

Thanks so much for watching! Let us know in the comments what transformation you'd like to see next. Remember to try out this ginger spice hair color transformation using teasy lights for a bright and dimensional look. Get ready to spice up your hair color with this stunning shade!
